Not a recipe for food as such, but I’ve lost count of the number of times someone has asked me for the recipe for this. Here in Sydney I was surprised how expensive goma dressing is to buy in Japanese supermarkets. My recipe shows how quick, easy and cheap it is and i guarantee you won’t be able to tell the difference

By the way, ‘goma’ means sesame in Japanese. This rich dressing can make a plain salad really come to life and is packed full of nutritious goodness.
Ingredients
2tbs white sesame seeds
1/4 onion sliced
1/2 carrot sliced
1 clove garlic
150cc salad oil
50cc rice vinegar
60cc soy sauce
1tbs sugar
1tbs Japanese mayonnaise (or western for this recipe is fine)
1tbs sesame oil
Step 1

Add all the dry ingredients into your blender, then add the oil, soy sauce and vinegar and frappé until all the sesame seeds have been blitzed into paste. Refrigerate, then pour over a salad!

What’s cc’s in terms of measurements? Can you convert that to cups please? Thanks so much.
Btw, stumbled upon your site and simply love it. Keep up the good work!
1 cup = 200ml/cc. Glad you enjoy my site!
do i need a food processor for this ? or can i just use a blender ?
Either is fine AK
Hi,
I love your blog
Just wondering, how long does the sauce keep for?
Thank you!
Hi Vanessa and thanks for the comment. If refrigerated, the sauce should keep for around a week.
Hi.
I am so happy i found this site. I always enjoy rice paper, duck and Goma dressing when i go out to a sushi bar, and they wont give out the recipe they use. Instead they want us to bye it, (its really expensive!) But now I don’t need to any more, I can make my own! Don’t have all the exact ingredience, but it works! Thanks again.

They don’t need to be roasted, but this will definitely strengthen the flavour and will no doubt be delicious Lisbet

I tried this dressing in my favourite japanese chicken salad and have always wanted to recreate it. Tastes exactly the same! So delicious, I think I’m going to have a jar of this in my fridge all the time. Only used 100mL oil and it worked great! Thank you, thank you xx
You’re more than welcome Carmen and thank you for the kind comments! Yes, this is a perfect dressing to have on hand in your fridge as it’ll keep for a long time
This looks exactly like the one I love eating in the restaurants! Can’t wait to try it

Cheers from Berlin
Hi Andy, sorry about the lack of updates. Maybe one day in the future…

Thanks Lawrence! Happy New Year to you too
Do you have a recipe for cod fish cakes?
Sorry, no I don’t
Greetings from Mexico City…
Addicted to goma, and excited to try your recipe.
Could you please recommend a substitute for salad oil?
How about sunflower oil or canola oil? Even coconut oil which isn’t too fragranced may work, although it’s definitely not a Japanese taste!
Representing Hawaii here! Thanks for this great recipe! We have Curry House here (Coco Ichibanya) and one of its most popular appetizer is their squid salad. They give customers two types of dressing but almost everyone uses the Goma dressing rather than the other one. They even have it on sale for $4.99 a bottle. That’s not too shabby but I definitely want to make my own because I like to know what goes in it!
I will definitely give this a try!
Hi Simon! Thanks for the message. Cocochiban was one of my favourite curry places in Tokyo!
